Adjuster License Requirements


To become a licensed insurance adjuster in Texas, individuals must:
  • Be 18 years of age or more.
  • Be a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the US Immigration and Naturalization Services
  • Take a certified adjuster pre-licensing course, or Successfully complete the Thomson-Prometric State Exam
  • If a non-resident applicant holds a license in another state that allows Texas adjusters to operate within their jurisdiction, that applicant does not need to take the state exam or pre-licensing course.
  • Exemption: Adjusters holding an AIC (Associate in Claims) or CPCU (Chartered Property and Casualty Underwriter) are not required to pass the state exam or take a pre-licensing course.

Texas Adjuster Application Form LHL206 must be completed and submitted with a fee of $50.00.

Maintaining Your License in Texas


30 hours CE are required per 2 year reporting period. 2 of these hours must be in Consumer Protection and/or Adjuster Ethics.


Fees


Initial Licensing and Application Fee: $50.
License Renewal Fee: $35.

A. By successfully completing a TDI certified course and approved final examination. Students who meet the course requirements and pass the comprehensive test at the end of the course are issued a certificate of completion that is good for one year.


What are the Continuing Education requirements?


30 hours per 2-year renewal period with 2 in ethics for:
  • Adjusters (all types)

How do I apply for a Texas non-resident license?


Non-residents may apply by reciprocity and are exempt from the fingerprint requirement. Non-residents may apply to TDI by submitting:
  • completed TDI Agent/Adjuster License Application (Individual) or the Uniform non-resident application;
  • application fee;
  • a letter of certification obtained from their home state department of insurance or a National Producer Database (PDB) printout.
A non-resident may also apply on line.

Non-resident applicants who do not hold a current license in good standing in their state of residence must, through the law enforcement agency of that state, submit a copy of their criminal history records along with a completed license application and fees. They must pass the proper Texas licensing examination (if required).


How do I get a copy of my license?


If your mailing address is current with TDI, you may request a copy of your license through our automated phone service by calling 512-322-3503 and selecting option 2 on the main menu, or by email at LICENSE@tdi.state.tx.us.

If your mailing address has changed you will need to submit to TDI: a written statement that contains your full name, license number, new mailing, business and/or resident address, any new contact numbers and your signature. You may submit:
  • by mail Licensing Division MC 107-1A, P.O. Box 149104, Austin, TX 78714-9104, or
  • fax to (512) 322-3553.

I am moving to Texas and now hold a Texas non-resident license. How do I keep this license with no lapse time?
